Story behind the song
Based on a true story. Ray, a wildlife photographer and good friend, had booked an 8 day camping trip into the heart of the Eagle Cap wilderness in Oregon. He was to pack in on horseback. Problem is, Ray had never ridden a horse. So, the pack guide saddled up Hank the mule so Ray could practice before the big trip. It did not go well and so a song was born. Unlike the lyric of the song, Ray and Hank survived the ordeal and are both doing fine. If you like, you can see some of Rays' pictures at http://camray.wordpress.com/ .
Lyrics
Ray was a big man stood about six foot two Hank was a mule with bit of an attitude A man and a mule, About to rondavue. Rodeo Ray, Rodeo Ray, You’re gonna learn to ride, that mule someday. You gotta be tired, of, bein, on your back, I’m bettin someday, yer gonna ride that Jack. Well you gotta git on im be-fore he spins like a merry go round (Like a merry go round) Put the saddle on tight and you won’t be riddin im upside down (Upside down) Like a rodeo clown, Head plowin the ground. Music Lead to CHO D A E A x 2 You might wanna start looking for a place to land before you let go. (Before ya let go) Looks like you learned that your head isn’t harder than a wooden fence post. (A wooden fence post) It was a pretty good show, that is until you let go. Rodeo Ray, Rodeo Ray, The pride and joy, of the cowboy way. He never gave up, but, neither did Hank. We buried them both there, on the river bank. If you're wonderin what, makes a whirlwind It’s just Ray and Hank, they’re at it again. Yippi-yi-kiy-yo Yippi-yi-kiy-yay Just a mule named Hank, and Rodeo Ray.
